Introduction

The City of Modena has in 2008, following the statistics of the Chamber of Commerce 744 cultural enterprises registered with VAT number, more than the third part of those located in the whole Modena provincial area. According to another source of data (ASIA 2006 archive) the enterprises and the professionals working in the cultural field come to 1490 within the town.
Despite of the difference among data, due to the fact that archives count different entities, the enterprises active in the cultural field are small: 77% of the cultural enterprises count on one employee, 93% of them count on four employees. The most predominant categories are the studies of architecture and other technical activities, engineering, publishing and printing, communication agencies, photographic field, software production and artistic handcraft.
