The nine partners of the CITIES network (comprising a diverse range of cities from Lithuania, Slovenia, Spain, Portugal, Italy and Hungary) has worked for over 36 months to improve regional and local policies addressing the promotion and support of creative and cultural industries, as one of the most significant growth sectors for the European economy in terms of GDP and added value. If good practice was transferable across the CITIES network, it is safe to say that they might be transferred to any European urban context!

The conference aims to explore how creativity and partnership can be used in the regeneration of the
European cities’ urban spaces. The creation of local and international partnership networks is the essence of creative and cultural industries since it encourages the spread of innovation and productive collaboration and also brings
together the key sectors of knowledge society: education, business, production and art. Partnership
transforms competition into cooperation by opening up world markets and helping to realize incredible
ideas.
The conference, which is held as the final event of the INTERREG IVC project “Creative industries in
traditional intercultural spaces” (CITIES), will be illustrated by the best practices of creative business and
creative networks across the Europe. CITIES project partners will share their experiences in encouraging
creative intervention in their urban areas, in developing creative clusters and supporting the emergence
of creative entrepreneurs. They will also share ideas how to form cultural identity in urban areas by
repurposing former industrial heritage, finding how culture and the creative industries can make a
greater contribution to the 21st century economies.
