Ugly Duckling
A collection of erotic objects

The Račka gallery on Gosposka 3 in Celje is located within the premises that used to house a peepshow. It was transformed into a gallery space with minimum interventions and thus certain elements (peepshow cabins, stage with a pole for the dancer) still indicate its former purpose. Thus it was decided that the Račka Gallery will be intended mainly for art that deals with eroticism in one way or another.
As eroticism is an activity to which we dedicate quite a bit of physical and mental energy, experimentation, wishes, hopes, dreams, projections… and as absolutely everybody has some sort of an erotic experience, we decided to create the Ugly Duckling, a collection of erotic objects.
It is foreseen that the collection will grow through the cooperation of individuals and the underlying idea is that the traces of various games, emotions and memories linked to erotic conquests, mishaps, intentions and expectations of individuals (if desired anonymous) can be tracked through the given objects. These objects will also disclose the originality (or non-originality) and diversity of the various intimate worlds. The collection is an open structure work in progress, for new objects are constantly added to it and thus the collection is constantly constructed anew. Some objects will be exhibited for a limited period of time, some will remain forever and new ones will be constantly arriving.

So far the following objects have become museum exhibits: a small woman's notebook with a list of dates in Ljubljana in 1960, a number of calendars with nudes from a mechanics workshop, a sexual aid from the collection of a popular porn star, a red teddy – a teddy of disappointment, a pink corset, a series of photographs of feet – bare, in socks or shoes, an e-mail invitation to a love date in Portorož ….
