Braga European Youth Capital 2012

The city of Braga has been chosen as European Youth Capital 2012. The official ceremony is scheduled for April 24.

Braga was chosen from among the Greek cities of Byron and Heraklion, becoming the first Portuguese town to receive this award. For the representatives of the Municipality of Braga jury selection was based on the quality of the program presented. The investment planned by the municipality is 1.8 million. On the program are planned over 13 thousand hours of activities, including more than 100 workshops and 90 seminars. Focus will be on volunteering, social inclusion, inter-regional interview and the environment. Braga is one of the youngest cities in Europe. The city has 185 thousands inhabitants of which 85 thousands are under 35 years.
Also in 2012, Guimarães will be European Capital of Culture which allows for collaboration between the neighboring cities.
